CMTY #1 - DALL-E, a fog machine, and something called Gimber
October 9, 2022 by @Josh Dzielak
I’m happy to say the inaugural CMTY went off without a hitch. Big thanks to Amanda and Rachel who helped organize, as well as the Orbit team members who attended. The event was hosted in Orbit’s new office in Paris, near Montparnasse.
We wrote prompts
We made images with Stable Diffusion and DALL-E. We all agreed DALL-E was less work to get a great image, but we also had to ration credits. We ran Stable Diffusion on a Mac M1 and it took about 30 seconds per image. We realized that next time we need a game to play while we wait.
We crowned a winner
The winning prompt was written by Saish Rane and executed by DALL-E:
“Dali inventing the telephone cyberpunk”
Congratulations Saish!! (right) 🏆 I hope you enjoy your laminated print-out.
Congratulations to startup king Kyle O’Brien for winning 2nd place with the excellent prompt:
“Hemingway fighting an iguana in cuba bauhaus”
Kyle, I’m terribly sorry about how the printer cropped your image. I should really write a letter to Canon. This is a lesson learned for next time.
We had real & virtual refreshments
We had wine and Tropical Torpedo from Sierra Nevada, which was cool to see in France 🍻
We also served mocktails, the VR version of alcohol. One of the most “interesting” was something called Gimber. If you’re feeling English, it rhymes with “limber”. If you’re feeling French, it rhymes with “bombay”. Gimber does have a strong bite, but we found it mixed well with soda water, simple syrup, and a lemon peel.
According to LinkedIn, Gimber’s headquarters are in Tubize, Walloon Region. If you correctly guess what country that’s in, I’ll buy you a bottle.

🌁 Where’s the fog?
Sorry, there were no photos taken while the fog machine was in action. Not that they would have turned out very well.
But we can still try. And try we will next time:
